Christopher H. Beeson

Christopher Hall “Chris” Beeson, 85, went to be with the Lord, at home surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The son of the late Wilmer Beeson and Maxine Hall Beeson, Chris was born December 31, 1940 in New Castle. A 1959 graduate of Hagerstown High School, he was a lifelong resident of Hagerstown, except for the time he spent at Taylor University, and with the Indiana National Guard, serving in the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War Era. Chris was a purchasing manager for Dana Corporation for 37 years. For over 50 years, starting in 1968, he was scorekeeper for the Hagerstown Boys’ Basketball team. Friend Lloyd Michael stated, “One of the greatest thrills was when we presented him with a Hagerstown Letter Jacket for all those years as scorekeeper.” Mr. Michael continued, “As a young coach, he would have something positive to say to me about my program, and hardly ever missed a home baseball game. He loved Hagerstown Athletics and was one of our greatest supporters. He was one of my best friends.” Chris was a lifelong public servant and community volunteer who gave selfishly of himself through dedication to the State of Indiana, Wayne County and Hagerstown. He was elected to local offices, including the Jefferson Township Advisory Board and Hagerstown Town Council. He served on Wayne County Council for more than 25 years; was Wayne County Auditor for eight years, and during that time was awarded Auditor of the Year. He was proud he never lost an election. His community service earned him multiple awards, including The Arthur R. Himsel Award (the highest award bestowed by the AIC) in 2006; and, The Sagamore of the Wabash, an award for distinguished humanity in living, loyalty in friendship, wisdom on council, and inspiration in leadership, was presented by Governor Eric J. Holcomb in 2024. Chris prided himself in the commitment of the economic development and safety of The Wayne County Highway Department, He was on multiple state committees, including Republican Party Executive Committee; Paul Harris Fellow; President of AIC, advocating for all 92 counties; President and Junior Leader Advisor; America Legion Post #333; Rotary Club; Perfect Circle Community Band; Hagerstown Concert Band; Nettle Creek Barbershop Quartet; and, the Hagerstown United Methodist Church Choir. Chris is survived by his wife Barbara Hines-Beeson; son David (Natalie) Beeson, Indianapolis; stepdaughter Ashley (Matt) Garard, Richmond; stepson Rick (Sarah) Hines, Ketchikan, AK; and, stepdaughter Anna (Ben) Phelps, Lebanon; granddaughter Logan (Ryan) Beeson Schuld, Indianapolis; step-grandchildren Matt Phelps, Ingalls; Andrew (Haylee Adams) Phelps, Lebanon; and, Skylar (Aidan Benolken) Hines of Craig, Ak; great-grandson Brooks Schuld, Indianapolis; and, step-great-granddaughter Jillian Garard, Richmond. Chris is also survived by his brother, Thomas Beeson, of Alabama; and, nieces Dawn Smith and Cheryl Beeson. Visitation will be 11 AM to 2 PM, Saturday, March 21, at Hagerstown First United Methodist Church, 199 South Perry St., Hagerstown. Memorial Service will follow at 2 PM, with burial in Nettle Creek Friends Cemetery.
