Dr. Owen A. "Sonny" Hoover

Dr. Owen A. "Sonny" Hoover, a long time Greens Fork resident, passed away peacefully at the Haven Hospice Center in Lake City, FL on Saturday, June 6, 2015, after a short illness. He was born March 8, 1926, to Virgil and Olive (Rodrian) Hoover. He graduated from Greens Fork High School in 1944 and was a lifetime educator, having received his B. S. degree from Ball State University and his Doctorate degree from the University of Florida. He lived in Florida for many years, but loved his hometown of Greens Fork and visited there several times a year. He was a member of the Greens Fork Christian Church and was on the Board of Directors at the Clay Township Museum. Sonny was an avid traveler. He is survived by nieces and nephews: David, Jana, John, Shannon, Kelli, Danny and Susie; nephew-in-law, Owen Ramsey; and a special friend of fifty years, Larry Elshoff. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Evelyn (Hoover) Allread and Mary Jane (Hoover) Laymon; nieces, Cathy (Shoemaker) Ramsey and Jill (Laymon) Ullery and nephew Timothy Allread. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Greens Fork South Cemetery.
