Ada M. Butler

Ada Mary "Billie" Butler went peacefully to sleep to await the Lord's call to Paradise on August 8, 2017. She was at home with family and friends beside her. Ada was born on November 15, 1916 to William Duncan and Manie Pearl (Huffman) Gerald, the second of seven girls, in Cave City, KY. The family lived in Pine Bluff, AR during her elementary years. She graduated from Cave City High School in 1935. Ada met her future husband. Lee Frederick Butler, at Mammoth Cave, where his CCC camp was stationed. The were married in Franklin, KY on March 28, 1936. They had 65 years together until his death in 2001. When Ada was 30, she became one of Jehovah's Witnesses, while living in Edinburgh, IN. She was baptized in December, 1947 and has faithfully lived up to her dedication for over 69 years. Her large spiritual family will miss her greatly. Ada loved flowers, planting numerous flower beds and potted plants each spring. She loved vegetable gardening, as well as canning and preserving all types of produce. She also enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and raising farm fowl. While living in Phoenix, AZ she developed a love of camping, travel and enjoying natural wonders. She is survived by a son, William Fredrick "Bill" Butler (Pam) of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Gina Pearl "GP" Thompson (Steve) of Modoc; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, June Bardin (Bob) of Florida and Gene Adwell of Greenwood; many nieces, nephews and special beloved friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Gerald Kenneth Butler; 2 granddaughters, Peggy Ann Cox and Tara Gaye Rathbun; 4 sisters, Ruth Wilcoxson, Gladys Foster, Edith LaMaie and Dixie Lazzell; 3 nephews and a niece. A celebration of Ada's life and faith will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 12 , at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Winchester. Steve Thompson will officiate with burial to follow in Salem Cemetery, Modoc. Visitation will be 2-3:00 PM Saturday, also at the Kingdom Hall.
